Grateful for Guidance

My grandfather encouraged me to think about folks who were struggling, those who really are living at the margins of society. I'm grateful for his guidance. He sent me to visit Immokalee, Florida and the experience made me a little less naive about the reality of lives lived in desperate poverty.

Power of One Voice

I will never forget Mr. Betru because he spoke up when I needed him to. It was more than a decade ago and it was in a garage we worked in. He spoke up to defend me and that made the difference. One person can change the world fr the better.

New Liver!

Yesterday was a day I won't soon forget! My pal danced back into town with his new liver! What a miracle to see how healthy and agile he is now.

Feelings.

I'm feeling some angry feelings today. Mainly they are directed towards myself. The good news is I know that these feelings will pass, it just takes some time.

Amazing Grace

There was a favorite place of mine not far from the "Red Hat" in Boston where a free meal was served every Monday Night. And every Monday night after finishing his meal Mr. A.J. Fox would take out his "Tennessee Trumpet" (aka harmonica) and thrill the other guests with a soulful rendition of "Amazing Grace". I miss hearing Mr. Fox playing what he never called a harmonica but rather lovingly referred to as a "bitch box". Rest in peace A.J. Fox and play that "bitch box" up there for eternity!

Writing on the Wrist

Best way I've found to remember stuff--write it on the wrist. It works!

Eddie P.

Eddie P. always told me, "The sun is shining and I can see it.". It's wet and muddy here today but for me the sun is shining and I can see it.
